Wynberg Rugby

Rugby Overview

With over a century of rugby experience and excellence, Wynberg Boys’ High School boasts not only one of the highest level schoolboy rugby teams in the country, but also has had a significant impact on school rugby throughout South Africa. Our learners have demonstrated excellence at provincial and national level, both in school and in professional capacities; several of our students have gone on to represent the country as Springboks.

Coaches & Teams

The Director of Rugby at Wynberg Boys’ High is Mr Craig Childs. Our various rugby teams participate in a number of fixtures at various levels. The year begins with Newlands rugby day, and inter-school fixture featuring the top rugby schools in the area. The students play teams throughout the region, in both home and away games, as well as teams from further afield. The Grey weekend is a notable sports event of the year and sees our teams go to Grey High School to face the noted sporting schools’ best.

Rugby Supporters Club

Supporting our Wynberg Sportsmen with passion has always been part of our School ethos.

With changing times come changing needs: we take great pleasure in re-launching our Wynberg Rugby Supporters’ Club, to raise not only support, but funds to ensure that every Wynberg rugby player has the very best our School can offer – facilities, coaches, mentorships, and most importantly, the knowledge that we as parents, Old Boys, and Staff are behind them every step of their way.

For many years during the 1990s into the 2000s a Rugby Supporters’ Club thrived, based in the Bill Bowden Pavilion, Home of Wynberg Old Boys. Monthly social events were held throughout the calendar year, with proceeds donated to the School – we’re going bigger and better in 2019.
