From the Magazine Editorial by Dr Godfrey Bobbins (G. B.):
The annual sports meeting in spite of the misgiving we had about the success off a full day’s sports, revealed how keen even less gifted boys are when they are offered races to compete in where the result is not of great importance and the competition not too close. In the past we have staged a championship meeting, in preparation for the inter-schools events, in which 15 or 20 boys from each of our four Houses have competed and boys unlikely to win points have been passed by. This year, in the belief that participation in the inter-school meeting served no useful purpose, we withdrew from it and organised an ambitious programme of handicap races, walking races, sack races and obstacle races in addition to the traditional championship events. The response of the school was astonishing, and three hundred boys took part in the 72 events which made up the programme.
