Friday 16 & Saturday 17 April 2021: In the best traditions of school sport – friendship, rivalry, and competition – we’re delighted to present a pared-down opportunity for local teams to blow away the cobwebs of the last year in a shared celebration of the beautiful game – the Wynberg 180 Soccer Classic.
Two days of soccer action across three fields at our Jacques Kallis Arena will see Wynberg, Hamiltons Academy, Rondebosch, and Westerford play off against each other in 18 matches across U15, U17, and U19 age groups.
Headmaster, Mr Jan de Waal, writes in the official programme:
After a very frustrating 2020 I am delighted to at last be welcoming young sportsmen from neighbouring schools back onto the Wynberg Campus. We would have loved to have participants from elsewhere in the country but this has unfortunately not been possible under the current circumstances. Nevertheless, we are fortunate to have schools and clubs from around the Western Cape participating in this festival and we expect keen competition and a high standard of football this weekend. Sadly this event will still have to take place without spectators which will deprive the boys of that much-needed side-line encouragement that forms such a vital part of the schoolboy sport vibe.
All matches will be played under strict Covid-19 protocols. We regret NO spectators.
