Thursday 21 October 2021: A big thank you to all who joined us on the Hawthornden Field and online as we marked the end of an era for our Matrics of 2021, and the start of their new relationship with us as proud Old Boys. In the words of our Headmaster, Mr Jan de Waal, who also marked his own Valedictory as he retires at the end of the year:
I remember addressing you and your parents in the hall in January 2017, saying that you are a very special group in the history of Wynberg, particularly to me: firstly, you were the first Grade 8s I accepted into the school as Headmaster and I knew you were a very talented bunch, which you have proved to be true. Secondly, I told you that you and I would finish our time here at the same time. We’ve been together for your entire high school career. You are also very special in that many of you are second, indeed third, generation Wynberg families, and in fact, I taught many of your parents … Much water has flowed under the bridge since 2017 and you have faced great challenges from the worst drought in the Western Cape since 1904 which, along with the pandemic, curtailed so many school and extra-mural activities. But I commend your Supera Moras spirit and thank you for your contribution to WBHS. I wish you the best for your final exams, and for the future – you certainly have given your very best to Wynberg.
