We take great pleasure in welcoming prospective Wynberg Families to our Admissions 2020 Open Day. An opportunity to explore one of South Africa’s leading boys’ schools, view our magnificent educational and sporting facilities, find out about boarding, and meet our Staff and young Wynberg Men.
It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to Wynberg Boys’ High School, one of the oldest and most prestigious traditional boys’ schools in the country. Rich in tradition, but passionate about progress, Wynberg is a school of incredible opportunities both in our classrooms and in our extra-mural curricula. Our dynamic and committed staff continue to grow and keep abreast of the latest trends in education, working closely with local and international universities, to ensure we produce learners able to take their place proudly in society and add meaningful contributions to the world at large. One of Wynberg’s defining features is our pastoral care and discipline structure. Through our Tutor system, the well-being of our boys remains paramount. Our discipline structure based on The Wynberg Way, bought into and understood by boys and staff alike, consistently delivers outstanding holistic results in producing well-balanced Wynberg Men. Wynberg Boys' High School celebrates diversity, embracing and respecting the differences that bring us all together in a healthy community inspired by opportunities to achieve excellence in all spheres of school life, be it academics, sport, culture, or service. WBHS vs SACS Athletics, view the photos on Flickr
Friday 25 January 2019: A new event on the southern suburbs athletics calendar, the first recorded Wynberg / SACS meeting. A great afternoon of friendship, rivalry, and competition in the best sporting traditions of South Africa's two oldest schools. Thanks to one and all for the incredible support.
Welcome to the Hawthornden Field, and our first inter-schools athletics event of 2019. A special welcome to Mr Brendan Grant, the SACS staff, and particularly the athletes, supporters, and families.
Athletics is easily the oldest participation school sport, and while it would be fair to say that today’s competition between South Africa’s oldest boys’ schools must have its origins in the first half of the 19th century, this will be the first recorded formal bilateral athletics meeting between Wynberg and SACS. The sporting histories of our proud schools are rich in the records of our encounters on the fields and courts, and in aquatic pursuits - may today’s meeting become the first of many.
For generations of SACS and Wynberg Men the traditional derby matches to conclude summer and winter sporting seasons have been the annual highlights of rivalry and competition - it is with shared pride that we begin the competitive athletics season in just such spirit, a celebration of the reasons we play school sport.

Mr De Waal announcing the 2018 Matric Results
Friday 4 January 2019: Headmaster, Mr Jan de Waal, Vice-Principal of Academics, Mr Ben Thompson, and the staff of Wynberg Boys' High School take pleasure in announcing a 100% National Senior Certificate pass rate for the class of 2018.
Wynberg recorded a 91% bachelors' pass, with 259 subject distinctions across the board - our congratulations to the top 10 students:
With 66 students returning an above 70% aggregate, we recognise with pride the work and commitment delivered by our Wynberg Men throughout the year.

Wynberg Rugby Old Boy Sikhumbuzo Notshe to wear his old school 1st XV socks for the Barbarians vs the Pumas at Twickenham
Saturday 1 December 2018: Congratulations to Old Wynbergian, Sikhumbuzo Notshe (Springboks & Stormers), on his selection for the Barbarians Squad against the Pumas. In a salute to Wynbergians around the globe Notshe will proudly wear his #WynbergRugby 1st XV socks at Twickenham, likely the first time our kit has made an international appearance on that hallowed field.
Ever-supportive of his old school, Notshe is also no stranger to giving back to grassroots rugby in South Africa, recently teaming up with fellow old boy, Tim Connellan (1985) to assist Lagunya RFC with new club strip, sponsored by international legal firm, Linklaters.
In this season of giving, and with WBHS new boys' rugby day coinciding with with the Baa-baa's match, Wynberg Rugby outreach launches our 2019 #Boots4Berg drive to collect good, used boots and rugby training equipment for our development projects. We appeal to our Wynberg Families and Old Boys to give as generously as in previous years to help those less fortunate.
#Boots4Berg is an outreach project across all Wynberg Sports: for more information on how to contribute, please email our Vice-Principal of Sport, Mr Mike Engelbrecht, mengelbrecht (@) wbhs.org.za.
