Squash vs Old Boys - View Heritage Week photo collection on Flickr
Friday 24 August 2018: With the buzz of Heritage week all around, it is nevertheless fitting to report back on the week that was against Bishops.
Our squash boys had a dreadful time of it but Chris Cresswell won the match of his young life so far when he defeated SA number 5, Brandon Snider by 3 games to 1 to snatch the Super League number one match last Thursday.
The 1st hockey XI were beset by illness, call ups to higher honours and ill-discipline that saw them without their best team on the field for much of the match. They will be itching to put matters right vs SACS away on Friday evening.
The 1st XV are now on the verge of a Triple Crown (their first since 2014) and a win over SACS will see them register 5 from 6 in the Southern Suburbs. Lots of little nuances will play out on Saturday. SACS will be looking to break their duck in the Southern Suburbs this year and if Bishops beat Bosch, they will be either top of the Southern Suburbs for 2018 or level with Wynberg - depending on how things pan out under the mountain.
As we did last year, our boys will be putting their social awareness hat on by donating their hockey, rugby and soccer boots to Langa and Mfuleni rugby clubs. Grant Kantor will be dressing up boxes to be placed on the centre spot of the main rugby field at SACS so that any boy that feels he has played his last match in his boots can donate them to deserving rugby players that they have yet to meet. Last year we managed to collect 17 pairs of boots. Hopefully this year, we can double that . And here is hoping that the much needed rain stays away for an hour or 2 later than predicted so that we can all enjoy a fairweather experience at SACS on Saturday afternoon to officially bring down the curtain on the winter season.
