Inter-House Plays: the Synopses, the Nominees, and the Winners

View photos of the Inter-House Plays on Flickr

Tuesday 12 March 2019: the much anticipated Inter-House Plays competition took a Superhero theme this year, taking the creative writing and performing by the students into mainstream pop culture. The only stipulation to the comeptition was that each play needed to contain a cameo of Stan Lee to pay homage to the late genius - beyond that the students' imaginations were given free range. The one night only performance of the eight short plays under the professional direction of Mrs Krystle Kustanovich again delighted the audience with insightful scripts, polished acting, and enthusiastic costumes - a selection of photos is available on our Flickr channel.

Congratulations to all Houses, the writers, the performers, and the back stage support.

Inter-House Swimming Gala - All the Results

View photos of the Inter-House Gala on Flickr

Tuesday 12 February 2019: The Inter-House Gala was held in ideal conditions in the newly refurbished WBHS pool. While the lack of starting blocks undoubtedly influenced the ability to break records, it did nothing to dampen the spirit of the competing houses.

In the U14 events, the relays were dominated by Trovato House, while Tristan Baxter Elliot took first place in the 4x25m individual, medley, 25m butterfly, and 50m freestyle to claim the title of U14 champion. In the U16 category, the top results for the relays were split between Hawthornden, who claimed the 4x50m relay, and Silverhurst who took the 4x25m medley relay. Here there were a number of excellent individual performances with Dylan Bantam (100m Breaststroke, 100m Butterfly) and Josh Brown (50m Breaststroke, 50 Butterfly) each achieving individual victories. However, it was Connor Theron with his outstanding performances in the 4x25m individual medley, 200m Freestyle, 50m Backstroke and 100m Backstroke (setting a new record) who took top honours to become the U16 age group champion. In the U19 age group another contest for the top individual positions saw Timothy Meyer (4x25 Individual Medley, 100m & 200m Breaststroke), Luke Altmann (400m Freestyle, 50m Backstroke, 100m Butterfly and 100m Backstroke) and Stephen McCallum (100m Freestyle, 50m Butterfly, 200m Freestyle, 50m Freestyle) battle it out for the overall individual trophy. In the end it was Stephen McCullum who claimed the age group prize by anchoring both Silverhurst relay teams to victory, including a convincing win in the 4x50m relay that set a new record time. The final points and positions of each house read as follows: 1st Silverhurst – 283 points 2nd Oude Wijnberg – 216 points3rd Littlewood – 184 points4th McNaughton – 168 points5th Hawthornden – 165 points6th Glebe – 163 points7th Trovato – 131 points8th Sunninghill – 126 points
