Sports Roundup, Week Ending 2 March 2018

WBHS Athletics 2018

Friday 2 March 2018, Wynberg Boys' High School: The mornings are slightly cooler and the financial year has come to end, a signal that we have reached the last fortnight of summer sport. With tours and derby matches wrapping up the first term 2018, one can anticipate the season going out with a bang.

The Wynberg supporters caps have arrived. Only online orders through Moodle were recorded, caps may be collected from the Student Support Desk on submission of proof of payment.

The rugby department is sourcing an affordable and efficient practice jersey. An online order form will be published to Moodle soon - while the jerseys will be available this year, they will only become compulsory kit from 2019.

Basketball

WBHS Basketball at St John'sThis week saw our teams competiting in the penultimate set of fixtures for the first term - well done to the U14A & U16A on hard-fought wins over SACS. Our B side matches were postponed - with make-up matches to be advised. Our C teams were at home to Settlers' B teams - the new U16D side performed at peak to claim a win over Settlers U16B, while our U16C finished their match with a dramatic 3 pointer.

Good luck to the 1st team who compete in an international school tournament at St John's College in Johannesburg this weekend.

Cricket

The past fortnight saw the 1st XI play Yorkshire Academy, Grey High School, Affies, Paarl Gym, Paarl Boys, and Worksop College from the UK. Wynberg Cricket have three more league fixtures until winter sport season: Paul Roos, Pinelands, and the traditional finish against old rivals SACS.
