Wednesday 13 February 2019: This week our athletes prepared for the annual Zonal inter-school athletic event. This is the first round of knock out events for our athletes on the road to Western Province, and potentially South African athletics colours. Wynberg entered 50 athletes, and joining forces with Wynberg Girls' High we were able to enter more than 100 athletes into the event. Our athletes performed outstandingly, and Wynberg Boys' and Girls' combined placed first out of the 10 competing schools.
Below are some stand out individual performances.

Friday 25 January 2019: A new event on the southern suburbs athletics calendar, the first recorded Wynberg / SACS meeting. A great afternoon of friendship, rivalry, and competition in the best sporting traditions of South Africa's two oldest schools. Thanks to one and all for the incredible support.
Welcome to the Hawthornden Field, and our first inter-schools athletics event of 2019. A special welcome to Mr Brendan Grant, the SACS staff, and particularly the athletes, supporters, and families.
Athletics is easily the oldest participation school sport, and while it would be fair to say that today’s competition between South Africa’s oldest boys’ schools must have its origins in the first half of the 19th century, this will be the first recorded formal bilateral athletics meeting between Wynberg and SACS. The sporting histories of our proud schools are rich in the records of our encounters on the fields and courts, and in aquatic pursuits - may today’s meeting become the first of many.
For generations of SACS and Wynberg Men the traditional derby matches to conclude summer and winter sporting seasons have been the annual highlights of rivalry and competition - it is with shared pride that we begin the competitive athletics season in just such spirit, a celebration of the reasons we play school sport.

Saturday 12 January 2019: Our 95th annual Inter-House Sports Day, held this year on the Hawthornden Field. Congratulations to all the event winners, and a big thank you our Head of Athletics, Mr Stefan Potgieter and our Wynberg Staff for a slickly organised event. We extend thanks to Servest for the setting up of the track and preparation of fields, and particular thanks to the huge turnout by our Wynberg Families in support.

Friday 26 October 2018: Searing temperatures during an early season heatwave made sports participation a tad uncomfortable over the last week, but much welcomed cooler temperatures are expected this weekend against Bishops in polo and cricket.
Our cricketers certainly felt the heat (apologies) last week against Bosch, with few matches ending satisfactorily for us. Well done however to the following boys: Nic Govender 66; Craig Jefferey 56 not out; Dylan Sharp 4/9; Josch Paulsen 80; James Finlay 70; Nur Johnston 57 and Jared Southgate 50.

Friday 16 March 2018, Wynberg Boys' High School: Only cricket will be in action this weekend, in do-or-die fixtures vs SACS. Our boys should be high on confidence after getting valuable time in the middle last week against various opposition.
From Monday onwards, the pitches will be rolled up, the sun will be packed away and the rain clouds will be wheeled out. On cue, the rugby club begins pre-season friendlies vs Bergvliet, Brackenfell, and Boland Landbou before the A teams embark on long distance and local tours ahead of the Bosch clash, away, on 14 April. Soccer, always keen to buck the trend, will be playing warm-up fixtures on Friday afternoon on the Oude Wijnberg in anticipation of a busy season.
Some housekeeping matters:
1. Practice rugby jerseys will be available for ordering on Moodle only from this weekend. Orders close on Wednesday 21 March.
Friday 2 March 2018, Wynberg Boys' High School: The mornings are slightly cooler and the financial year has come to end, a signal that we have reached the last fortnight of summer sport. With tours and derby matches wrapping up the first term 2018, one can anticipate the season going out with a bang.
The Wynberg supporters caps have arrived. Only online orders through Moodle were recorded, caps may be collected from the Student Support Desk on submission of proof of payment.
The rugby department is sourcing an affordable and efficient practice jersey. An online order form will be published to Moodle soon - while the jerseys will be available this year, they will only become compulsory kit from 2019.
Our boys competed against top athletes from Southern Zone schools in the zonal semi-final event held in Bellville. After a long day of competition, 16 of our athletes made it through to next round to form part of the Southern Zone team to take on teams from the Northern, Table Bay, and False Bay Zones for a place in the Western Province athletics team on Friday 2 and Saturday 3 March at the Vygieskraal track. The Western Province team will compete at the Western Cape Championships in Paarl on the weekend of 9 March.
We wish them all the very best:

Friday 9 February 2018, Wynberg Boys’ High School: With the Western Cape in the throes of the worst drought in living memory, it is understandable that some of our sporting fixtures have been negatively affected.
The past fortnight has seen fixtures cancelled, rearranged, and in some cases, match formats have been changed to reduce playing time. Our teams are informed during the course of their school day of any changes, and we expect our students to communicate these with their parents directly in respect of transport, match support, and kit requirements. We thank you for your understanding.
A joint statement written by the Boys’ High Schools has been published and outlines our reasons for continuing with our sporting programme – albeit a curtailed one.
The drought plan for sport for the rest of the term is as follows:
Friday 3 November 2017: With the year-end exams around the corner, this weekend heralds the end of most Term 4 sporting fixtures. Only cricket continues for one week beyond SACS with the Stayers playing matches vs Paarl Boys’ on 11 November.
While your sons will be hitting the books with vengeance next week, it would be good to see them utilising our sporting facilities as and when they feel the need to take a study break. The nets, courts, and fields are not going anywhere while organised sport takes a break.
Wynberg recorded some very good wins against Bishops on the weekend. The highlights of the week would be Tristan Perez explosive 160 against Bishops U15A and Cameron Tanner scoring his 2nd 100 of the week against Bishops 2nd XI. Kieron Adams u14A (70*) helped the U14’s to a comprehensive 7 wicket win while Imti Samaai’s off-spin (4/35) enabled the 2nd team to beat Bishops by 80 runs. The 1st squad will be looking to bounce back after consecutive losses when they play hosts to SACS this weekend, with many Matric boys playing their last WBHS fixtures along with 1st team coach Eric Lefson’s final match at the helm after a remarkable contribution to the game at Wynberg Boys’ High School over 18 years
Kyle Pluke was awarded his 100th cap last week against Bishops and Umar Anthony stands in line to receive his 100th cap this week against SACS.
