Wynberg Cricket: Saturday in Hermanus, 24 January 2015

Wynberg Boys' High School Cricket 2015

A composite U15/U16/U17 Wynberg cricket side, captained by Mika Ekström and accompanied by Messrs Lefson and Hewett, departed Cape Town a little after 06h00 this morning to travel to Hermanus for a 50-overs-a-side contest against the Hermanus 1st XI.

Hermanus won the toss and opted to bat on a particularly warm and muggy Boland morning. The hosts never recovered from the loss of early wickets and were dismissed for 119 inside 30 overs: Anthony and Pluke proving destroyers-in-chief.

Wynberg’s openers, Riaz Paleker and Karl Vermeulen, began the reply in confident fashion and, following the dismissal of Paleker care of an LBW decision, Grant Martin joined Vermeulen and the two combined to see Wynberg home to a nine-wicket win.

Thanks to Hermanus High School and its parents for providing lunch and for welcoming Wynberg so warmly. The plan is to make this ‘stayers’ game an annual affair and to extend the tour of the Boland to include a night in Hermanus and an additional Sunday fixture as of 2016.

Match summary:

Hermanus 1st XI: 119 all out. Umar Anthony 4/6. Kyle Pluke 3/16.

Wynberg: 120/1. Karl Vermeulen 66*. Grant Martin 31*
