Wynberg 175: The Street Parade

Wynberg Boys' School 175 Celebrations Street Parade

The Wynberg 175 Street Parade – a celebration of 175 years of the Wynberg Boys’ Schools at the heart of Oude Wijnberg. Monday 1 February will see a heritage parade by the pupils of Wynberg Boys’ High and Junior Schools through the streets of Wynberg: the parade sets forth from Waterloo Green across the road from the Schools’ original home, Glebe Cottage, where the 1st Headmaster Mr John McNaughton, took the reins of the fledgling Wynberg Free School in 1841.

The parade then follows to Wynberg Boys’ Junior School, and in a circuitous route in a nod to School history, the parade finishes with the boys of both Schools entering through the War Memorial Gateway on Lovers Walk to complete a 175 formation on the Hawthornden as the official Wynberg 175 Flag is parachuted down for the Flag Raising and Special Assembly.

Wynberg Families, Old Boys and former staff are welcome to join the crowds on the Hawthornden from 10h30 – please note that parking will be available on the Jacques Kallis Oval, but that access will be through the Herschel Walk entrance and that the gates will be closed at 10h30 promptly.
