WBHS Headmaster-Designate for 2016, Mr Jan de Waal, writes:

Judging by the activity on social media a vast number of Littlewood Old Boys know about the Reunion on 5th February 2016.  Interest has been expressed by Old Boys from as far back as 1958 through to those who are matriculating this year, and the event promises to be one of the highlights of the Wynberg  175 Celebrations.

The event will be held on the lawns at Littlewood under Bedouin tents. There will be plenty of seating and a ‘refreshment station’ where we can quench our thirsts … February is a hot month, and we’ll all be rounding off a busy 175 Celebrations Launch Week. The main event will start at 18.30 but there will also be an opportunity for those unable to make the evening event to gather in the afternoon.

Old Boys will be given the opportunity to mingle and chat to fellow hostel dwellers across the generations with our current hostel boys offering tours through the hostel (go and check out your old dorm) and the Junior School.

There will be an exhibition of the history of Littlewood and life at Littlewood today, with plans for the future in the common room. There will also be a 175 information kiosk where you can view all the memorabilia on sale and find out more about the events planned for the rest of the year.

The evening format is not a sit down dinner but instead there will be a number of food stations where you can go and collect your food at leisure. You can either sit at one of the tables outside or go down memory lane and have your meal in the dining room. Unfortunately Elise and Sister de Klerk will not be present. The menu offers much better fare than the standard hostel grub of yore, with Red Thai Chicken with Jasmine rice, Bobotie with rice and sambals or Oriental Beef and Chinese noodles. A pudding will also be served.

The Reunion Committee want to put together a scrapbook of the untold Littlewood stories and we are asking all Old Boys to contribute stories of the funny, outrageous, dangerous or unbelievable experiences they had whilst staying in the boarding house. Names may be left out, or changed, to protect the reputations of Littlewood’s finest! Littlewood Masters over the years have all been tracked down, invited to attend and asked to contribute their stories. The plan is to bind these stories all into a book which will be on sale at the reunion.

If you have not bought your ticket yet please contact us on littlewood175@wbhs.org.za

I look forward to seeing you all on the 5th.

Jan de Waal
