After an inspiring and enlightening Founders’ Day, Wynberg hockey sides hit the turf to play SACS in the final league games of the season.

The U14A started the matches held at the Wynberg Astros. Coming off a tough season and looking to prove themselves, they did well in defeating SACS 3 – 0. All the under 14 sides show a lot of promise for a good future for Wynberg hockey. Special mention must be made of the U14D who won the Headmaster’s Grand Slam without conceding  a goal the whole season

The U16 age group fielded five sides in 2015, with the U16A finishing strongly with a 6 – 0 victory ahead of their knock out final against Rondebosch scheduled for Friday 4 September.

Well done to the U16B for achieving the Headmaster’s Grand Slam – an exceptional season!

In the U19 matches Wynberg Men, many playing for the last time in Wynberg colours, put their hearts, souls and bodies on the line for their school. Our young U19A side who’ve shown real Supera Moras spirit throughout the season were unable to hold a determined opposition to a draw, succumbing  2 – 1 in the final minutes of the match.

The U14As, learning how it feels to be part of high school rugby, did well to finish with a 13-3 victory. The players have had a good season to build on in the coming years.

Wynberg’s U15s became stronger, faster and mentally more mature during the 2015 season. The U15A in particular showed flare and guts to turn their 30 – 0 loss to SACS in the first half into a 26 – 10 win in front of the home crowds. With 4/4 wins in the final derby match and an impressive season, this age group holds the promise of a bright rugby future ahead.

The U16A had a tough run this year, with lapses in concentration seeing them go down 21 – 6 against rival SACS.

The 1st XV have not had the best of seasons and were on the back foot after recent big losses to both Rondebosch and Bishops. But facing a very good SACS team in front of the Wynberg faithful, the team pulled of the upset of the year by winning 30-23. Moments of brilliance by Labib Kanameyer, Dian Fourie , Steve Mathew and captain Jordan Holgate (in his last school match) provided a dramatic and positive finish to the season.

Well done to all our winter sport Teams and Coaches!
