SPORT THIS PAST WEEK

Most of our Rugby teams played Durbanville on the weekend. Other than the 15As, all the teams won comfortably. The 1st XV recovered well in the second half to win 42 -12.

Our Hockey teams played a variety of schools and clubs, with our A teams playing Central Hockey Club. The 1st Team won 3-0 against Central.
The following Wynberg hockey players need to be congratulated on being selected for WP or Protea teams:

WP U18A: Jason Smith
WP U18B: Robert McKinley, Dylan van der Mesht and Tim Welsh
WP U16A: Craig Botha, Greg Briton and Ryan Crowe
WP U16B: Shu-aib Samaai, Chad Gouws and Cameron Ryan
WP U14 Proteas: Matthew Alford, Darryn Bright, Nawaaz Cassiem, Dylan Finch, Michael Madison, Jaryd Philp, Daiyaan Solomons and
Daniel Vaughan

Wynberg hosted a southern league Cross-Country race on Wednesday and our team performed particularly well. Brandon Keeling came 1st in the under 15 race and our under 15 team came second overall. Our U17’s were outstanding. Migyle Stevens (1st), Bongo Pangwa (2nd), Jason Basset (4th),
Russell Gaynor (5th), Joshua Meyer (11th), Luthando Siboya (13th), Calvin Amor (14th) and Kyle Ruiters (16th). Our under 17 team therefore won by a huge 70 point margin.

Our Golf teams all played league matches on Monday afternoon. The 1st Team beat Milnerton, the 2nd Team lost to Pinelands A team and the 3rd Team beat Pinelands B team.

The 1st and U15A Squash teams lost to Paarl Boys’ High teams on Thursday evening.

Our U19 Soccer Team had a good win against Cedar House winning 7-3.

RUGBY AGAINST PAARL GYM

Our 1st XV play Paarl Gym tomorrow. Both sides are unbeaten, but Paarl are currently ranked no.1 in the country. It is going to be a tough game both sides!

SOMETHING TO WET YOUR APPETITE THIS WEEKEND

SABC 3s Expresso Show contacted the school yesterday. They have labeled the Paarl Gym / Wynberg rugby game as the biggest schoolboy game in the country this weekend and will be sending cameras to the game and doing some interviews. They will put a highlights package together for Monday and Tuesday next week between 6am and 8am.

INTERNAL HOCKEY LEAGUE

Owing to the large numbers of hockey players, we are running an internal league every Tuesday and Thursday. It is a hotly contested competition and after six rounds, the log is as follows:

SCIENCE EXPO

The annual Life and Physical Sciences EXPO was an outstanding success this year with 277 boys presenting their work over two days.

The overall quality was just outstanding and the imagination of the boys never ceases to amaze me. Their resourcefulness and creativity generated such diverse projects that included making a (working!) jet-engine from recycled materials, extracting actual metallic iron from breakfast cereals and a robot that can follow a beam of light all on its own. Well done to the boys, and many thanks to the guest judges who invested their valuable time in marking so many projects.

Quote of the Week

If you are not willing to learn, no one can help you.

If you are determined to learn, no one can stop you.
