Will all parents please note that the Aletta Walk gate will be closed for four days next week, Monday 21 – Thursday 24 November, to enable the gates
to be re-positioned.
Access to the Campus will be through the Lover’s Walk Gate.
On Tuesday, the school hosted a cocktail party in the Bill Bowden Pavilion to say thanks to anyone who had volunteered their services to Wynberg this year in any capacity. This included the Matric Parents who were able to say farewell to their House Heads and other teachers. It was a beautiful evening with everyone spilling out onto the field to listen to the speeches.
Parents, Old Boys, Sponsors, Donors, Friends of the School, and all who contributed to a memorable 170th Year at the school, are once again sincerely thanked for adding to the ongoing building and beauty of the Wynberg Cathedral!
Thank you very much indeed to all the families who donated gifts for children at the Red Cross Children’s hospital. A wonderful selection of items were donated including Lego, T shirts, jewellery, cars, toys, books, games and puzzles.
Much to the delight of the boys, eleven noisy Harley Davidson riders rode into the back car park and collected the gifts at an outdoor assembly on the 11th November. The hand-over of gifts is on Friday the 25th November where several boys have volunteered to assist.

Our under 15 Waterpolo team finished off an outstanding year with another trophy by being crowned Champion of Champions at the Paul Roos Waterpolo tournament. They lost 2-3 to Bishops in the first game, but recovered to beat SACS 4-3 and Paul Roos 6-2 to win the tournament. They can now add this title to tile of Ian Melliar champs as well as runners up in the Sterrenberg tournament. They have worked hard and deserve all their accolades.
Our cricket teams played a variety of schools last week in what was for most teams the final match of the season. Most of our teams won their matches, with the 14A and 1st XI (a Stayer’s team) beating Paarl Boys’. David Bedingham scored 95 to help the 1st XI to 209 all out. They then bowled out Paarl for 152. Kyle Verrynne scored his 1st hundred at Wynberg by getting a quick fire 104 for the 14As against Paarl. The 1st XI also proceeded to the third round of the T20 knock outs by beating Bergvliet convincingly in the second round. Greg Britton also had an excellent weekend taking 6 wickets for 5 runs for the 15Bs against Settlers 15As.
Our tennis teams did not have a good week with only our 3rd team winning against Herzlia. Our young 1st team lost 3-15 to Bishops, while our 2nd and 4th team lost to SACS and Westerford respectively.
Wynberg Cricket will be welcoming NS on board as our cricket sponsor in 2012 (Nelco Sport: www.nelcrocricket.com). They will be holding a ‘Fair’ in the Fish Bowl of their equipment on Friday 2 December. They have guaranteed that all their equipment will be at special prices for Wynberg families on that day – so book the date in your diaries and check their prices.
They will also be selling Wynberg branded cricket shirts and longs on that day – also at a special ‘Fair’ price. This cricketing apparel may be worn by any cricketer in the school – although U14’s traditionally play in shorts and won’t need the longs.
Please remember to ‘keep swiping’!
This week’s quotation is for all our boys who have commenced or who are about to commence, their final exams of the year. May they, too, work to achieve their goals.
‘Education is not received. It is achieved.’
