On Tuesday night, 18 February, Wynberg Boys’ High were the recipients of another academic award when the WCED praised the top 10 achieving schools for their performance in the 2013 Literacy and Numeracy tests.
These tests are administered and marked by the WCED for all grade 9 pupils in the province and consist of a Mathematics test and a Literacy test. The mean of both exams is used to determine the rankings. Once again we were placed in the top 10 schools finishing in 6thÂ position this year.Â Western Cape Education Minister Donald Grant and Superintendent General Penny Vinjevold were on hand to congratulate the top performing schools and hand over the certificates.
Praise must be given to the teachers at Wynberg who have worked tirelessly to improve the foundation level of Mathematics and Literacy without â€śteaching for the test.â€ť The overall approach to education at Wynberg has seen more boys aiming higher and working harder to achieve their goals. These results are showing, not just in matric results, but also in other forms of assessment such as the ANA and the WCED special tests such as these
