With the excitement building toward Old Boy Theodore Yach’s 100th Robben Island Crossing attempt, Wynberg’s Grade 11s & 12s, along with a staff team, take to the school pool at 07h45 on Thursday 17 March to relay swim the equivalent distance from Robben Island to the beach – all in aid of one of Theodore’s designated causes: the Wynberg Boys’ Aquatic Centre.
The school usually undertakes one fundraising event per year to help finance capital projects to improve the school’s facilities, in our 175th year we have decided on something completely different having been offered a unique fundraising opportunity by Old Boy Theodore Yach.
|The purpose of the Swim-a-Thon is three-fold:
To support an Old Boy who has raised more than R6Â 000 000 for charity over the years through his swimming.
To raise funds to finance capital projects that will enhance what the school can offer to both current and future students, with the Wynberg Boys’ Aquatic Centre foremost on our project list.
To give the boys some idea of the challenge Theodore is facing and why success in this 100th crossing will earn him a place in the International Open Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame, a living example of our school motto “Supera Moras” … never give up.
|Your Donations make a long-term difference:
Our pool not only provides for the needs of our boys but is also used by the greater community. This project will benefit the school for many years to come, so even if your son does not take advantage of it now, who is to say that your future grandsons won’t?

The format of the Swim-a-Thon is that the boys will be divided into teams comprising a number of swimmers, who between them, will complete 300 lengths of Wynberg’s swimming pool, this being equivalent to the route that Theodore will be swimming from Robben Island to Three Anchor Bay. We are asking every boy in the school to find a minimum R100 of sponsorship for this event, either as 4 sponsors x R25, 20 x R5 or 10 x R10. There will be a Cavendish Square gift voucher for the boy who raises the most sponsorship.  Parents, family and friends are welcome to attend the event which takes place between 08h00 and 10h30 on 17 March.
Sponsorship envelopes are to be returned to Tutors by Thursday, 7 April 2016.Â
Wynberg Boys’ High School is a registered Public Benefit Organisation – 18A tax certicates will be issued to donors on request.
