In what was surely one of the most anticipated fixtures of the local Southern Suburbs boys’ school rugby calendar, Wynberg traveled to Bishops to prove that this team is not just one making up the numbers but a team able to front-up to any school rugby opposition.
The foul weather on Bishops’ Piley Rees Field  played a major role as the roaring wind and stinging drizzle made things  treacherous for the side playing into the wind.
Wynberg were full value for their 20-0 halftime lead as they mastered these conditions to perfection to race into a commanding lead. Spectators were all asking the question: ‘Was it enough to keep out the sublime running skills of the Bishops backline?’
Throughout the second half it was evident that Wynberg were trying to keep matters tight by using their forwards to dominate the hosts while Bishops were intent on unleashing their potent runners. The weather played a role but it was the heart of the visitors that ensured victory for them by the narrowest of margins.
Final score: 20-19 to Wynberg
