We took approximately 480 boys through to Paarl for our annual athletics meeting. The boys were very well behaved and the spirit from the cheering was arguably the best of the night. We had a number of athletes taking part with some very good performances.
Migyle Stevens won the Open 3000m event, which is very good since he is only U17. Yusuf Ismail won the U19 100m and tied 1st place in the 200m. This does not happen very often but there was next to nothing separating the two sprinters. Vincent Van Der Merwe had a good night coming second in the U17 Javelin -having broken the schools’ under 17 Javelin record the previous week with a throw of 49,4m. He threw 50,48 to come second at Paarl.
There were a number of other good performances and I would like to congratulate all the athletes who took part on their achievements and for the way in which they kept our school motto of never giving up. For the first time in a long time, we had some hurdles athletes which was great to see. We are looking forward to the rest of the season.
