Oude Wijnberg Vineyard

The words of the school song come to mind when looking at the progress of our vineyard. ‘From an acorn to an oak tree’ can be changed slightly to read ‘From a stokkie to a vine’! We have watched the growth of this project from stick to flourishing vine with great pride.

The last few weeks have seen our 900 vines take on the autumn colours as they flourish in the fertile soil of the Krakeelwater – the underground river which flows underneath the school ending up in the Maynardville lake – one of the sources of the Diep River.

Andre Rousseau, from Uitsig, is keeping a fatherly and watchful eye on progress. The 175 Vintage (2016) of the Oude Wijnberg Shiraz is quietly developing and growing in a corner of our campus.

Shortly we shall be letting Parents and Old Boys know about how to order their bottles four years in advance – a version of the ‘Future’s Market’.
