On 6 March 2013, Wynberg will be honouring one of its previous Headmasters, Mr Rowan Algie(1984-1992), by naming the pavilion on the Jacques Kallis Oval “The Algie Pavilion”. When making this announcement, current Headmaster Mr Keith Richardson pointed out: “[Rowan Algie’s] most lasting physical memorial is the magnificent 1st XI Cricket field with its quaint Victorian style pavilion matching the architecture of Silverhurst. Rowan Algie was an ardent supporter of Cricket at the school and was a familiar figure at matches in his white hat sitting on the bench on the bank below the tennis courts. As he was the initiator of this cricket field and clubhouse and because Jacques Kallis was a pupil during his tenure, it is fitting that this pavilion be named: The Algie Pavilion The ceremony will tke place at 16:00 at the JK Oval and coincides with the Old Boys’ Summer Sports Day. All the Wynberg family are invited to attend.
