Matric Results 2015: Excellence in Academic Performance Award

Wynberg Boys' High School Academic ExcellenceThere was great excitement on the front steps of the school when a crowd of matrics and their parents gathered at midday on January 6th to hear a summary of results read out by the outgoing Headmaster, Keith Richardson. These results were arguably the best ever produced by the school.

Apart from the fact that there were no failures, 93.2% returned Bachelor passes which was a school record. A result which was just as pleasing for Director of Academics, Ben Thompson, was the fact that 91% of the grade passed Maths fully justifying the emphasis which has gone into the subject at the school over the past few years. The best performing subjects were Music, History, Art and I.T. – all of whom achieved averages around 80%.

The Dux of the School was Junaid Ismail who returned an aggregate of 92% with eight subject distinctions. He attended Wynberg, courtesy of the support of Students for a Better Future and has been accepted at UCT to read for a degree.  The best individual subject result was from Kino Hogan who achieved 99% in Art.  Deputy Head Prefect, Gareth Ramsay, who is studying Mechanical Engineering at Stellenbosch University next year, exemplified the holistic approach of so many of the boys in that he achieved 6 subject distinctions while playing a full role in the life of the school  – representing the 1st X1 as opening bat as well as playing provincial hockey.

This balanced school life with dedicated academic planning taking place early in the year, seems to have been the secret of the success of so many boys at the school this year.
