The Amy Biehl Foundation was created in honour of an American student – Amy Biehl – who was committed to making a difference in South Africa, before she was killed by mob violence in 1993. The Foundation provides child and youth programmes aimed at developing and empowering youngsters between the ages of 5 and 18 years who come from challenged and vulnerable communities within the Western Cape.
Every year the Foundation recognises – by way of the Amy Biehl Youth Spirit Award – young people who demonstrate a strong service ethic and who have made a difference to their community. We are proud to report that our Service Prefect, Cody McGregor, was declared the winner at a function at UWC on 27 August. Congratulations to Cody and his committee and to our Director of Service, Ms Sue Lindsay who nominated him, for enriching the ethos of service both at Wynberg and in the broader community.
