Wynberg Boys' High School mourns the passing of former Matron, Bernie Sauls

Wynberg is deeply saddened by the passing of our much loved and recently retired Littlewood House Matron, Bernie Sauls.

Generations of Littlewood and Wynberg Men will recall with warmth the loyalty, friendship, care and kindness she gave us all throughout her working decades at Littlewood House.

We salute you and mourn your passing. Forever a link in our Endless Chain.

Bernie will be laid to rest on Saturday 12 July 2014:

10h30  Moravian Church, Picketburg

Former Littlewood Head, Derek Faulds writes:

Bernie Sauls – a fantastic person.  It was in the service of others that Bernie found her niche in this world.  Having known her as “matron” in the Littlewood boarding house was most evident.  Nothing was ever too much trouble for “Auntie Bernie”.  Bernie was a sincere, loyal, loving and caring person who invested herself in assisting others and taking care of them while they were not at home [with their families, but at school].  It takes a special person to sacrifice so much of themselves in the service of others.  Bernie was a friend, mother and confidant to many Littlewood Men and staff members, and for this she will not be forgotten.

Personally to me and my family Bernie was a great support.  Her effort and assistance allowed our transition into Littlewood to be a smooth and seamless process.  Bernie was a special friend to our family and a special part of our lives.  Her smiles in the morning and her happy face will never be forgotten.  Our Littlewood Christmas dinners and staff parties would not have been the same without Bernie Sauls – who was often the life of a party.  “O! Brandewyn laat my staan” is a phrase that will always come to mind when thinking of Littlewood parties with Auntie Bernie.  It can easily be said that Bernie’s was a life well lived in the service of others
Our condolences go to Alycia, Ashlynne and the other family members.  Bernie will be sorely missed.  From the Faulds Family – Derek, Shelly, Steven and Georgia – We were privileged to have known Bernie and to have had her in our life as a very dear Friend and confidant.  We will miss her and know that she can rest in peace now having been a source of great fulfilment to others.
