Remembering Mr Rowan Algie

With the teams warmed up PBHS winning the toss to send the home side in to bat on green top under a light south-easterly breeze, the teams, management, and umpires gathered on the steps of the Algie Pavilion in a moment of silence to honour the memory of former WBHS Headmaster, Rowan Algie, who passed away in December 2017.

It was Mr Algie’s vision and drive that saw the development of the magnificent fields and facilities we know today as the Jacques Kallis Oval. Wynberg Cricket dedicates this week of competition, rivalry, and friendship to Rowan Algie’s memory.

This moment of respect became more poignant as we learned from our friends at Pretoria Boys’ High of the passing, on Saturday, of Mr Keith Gibbs, curator of the PBHS Museum, former staff member and cricket coach. Wynberg Boys’ High School extends our condolences to PBHS and the Gibbs Family on their loss.

Wynberg’s batting order vs Pretoria Boys’ High:

1. Bonga Makaka 2. Cameron Tanner 3. Kyle lamb 4. Matthew de Villiers 5. Raees Carr 6. Riaz Paleker 7. Brent Johnson
