Grey was a formidable team in Bloemfontein at the St Andrews festival, beating us 5 matches to 1, with only Ryan Southern winning at number 1. We were hoping for a comeback on their home ground for the tour. We had to adjust our teams slightly for the weekend, taking an U19 and an U16 squad, with our two junior superleague players, Matthew Lambrick and Nathan van der Westhuyzen heading up the U16 side.

Despite having some enthusiastic support from the 1st rugby team squashed into the small balcony at Grey, our boys were not able to defeat Grey’s strong line-up. Ryan Southern at 1 went down 2-3 in a terrific match against his previous opponent, Morgan Fuller. Dale Honeyman also put up a good fight, going down 2-3 in a tight battle. In the end we lost all the U19 games with a  match score of 18-4 to Grey.

The U16 group faired somewhat better, yet Cameron Slade at no. 6 was the only player able to pull off a solid win of 3-0. The final match score was 15-6 to Grey.
