Wynberg has maintained a reputation for musical excellence since the early days of Cadet Bands, and continues to offer music students both outstanding tuition and a wealth of opportunities.
The Department has a dedicated Music Centre which comprises six music rooms plus the 150 seat Nussbaum Auditorium and employs a number of part time music teachers in addition to the two full time staff to provide a comprehensive teaching programme.

The Music Department strives to create a happy and enjoyable atmosphere. The boys may play in one or more of the following bands: the Concert Band, the Jazz Band or one of the three Steel Bands. Those interested in singing may join the school choir or Vocal Ensemble. Opportunities at the school include formal concerts, performing in assembly, regular school performances and the major production cast and band. The Choir and Vocal Ensemble appear in Wynberg’s annual Choir Festival. Our boys are also frequently called upon to perform at a variety of outside functions.

Besides the options of subject music and extra-curricular music, the boys are also exposed to external musical activities such as eisteddfods, music grade exams and the Beau Soleil Music Centre.
Regular tours have taken place over the years with the Steel Drum Band undertaking the most recent tour, to the Grahamstown Festival in 2014.
