“The function of art is to free the spirit of man and to invigorate and enlarge his vision.”
Arts & Culture is a compulsory subject for Grades 8 and 9. It is aimed at developing boys’ creativity, self confidence and self awareness. There are four art forms boys study throughout the year: Visual art, Drama, Music and Dance. They learn basic skills in each of these disciplines while unlocking their potential talents.
“Art is not about thinking something up. It is the opposite — getting something down”
The subject is great fun, allowing boys to explore creative tasks such as producing a play, or composing a Rap song or choreographing a Dance. Visual Art gives boys the opportunity to learn various drawing techniques. The boys have to learn a certain amount of theory in each art form such as the history of art and theatre.
Arts & Culture as a subject teaches boys to appreciate art not only as a spectator, but as an active participant as well.
