History of the Friedlander Shield

The Friedlander Shield was presented for interhouse competion at WBHS after World War II by Old Boy Mr I.W. Friedlander in memory of his son, Cecil Arnold Friedlander, who perished serving his country.

The original competition was between the 4 houses of Wynberg: De Waal, Rhodes, Van Riebeeck and Wellington. Littlewood gained formal house status in 1975 providing hostel boys with their own participating house identity, while in 2003 De Villiers, Lorie and McNaughton were added.
