HISTORY OF LITTLEWOOD HOUSE

Littlewood House was named after, Edward Thornton Littlewood.

He was born in about 1860. He sailed from Derbyshire in 1892, together with his wife Sylvia Maud Auckland, to become headmaster of Wynberg Boys’ High School in 1893 at the tender age of 33.

Littlewood House, the building, will be celebrating its 50th year in 2007, as being home for the Wynberg men of years past. Littlewood House, the “family of boarding” will be celebrating its 115th year.

Littlewood House has seen many a change over the years, from being housed in Grove Cottage, to moving into the new building in 1957, then a few years back, finding the need to separate the junior boarders from the seniors, and housing the juniors in Silverhurst manor, to moving the juniors back home to Littlewood in 2004.
