ABOUT SOCIETY PERIOD
Forming a key part of the Cultural Pillar of WBHS, the
society period is a way for every Wynberg man to become
involved in the aspect of Culture.
However, Society Period is not only there so that we can
become involved Culturally but it is intended as a time
where we can share similar interests amongst our friends
and peers.
Owing to the wide variety of societies and difference in
age in age between Grade 8’s and the Matric’s,
this can be a difficult task but it is not impossible, if
the Society is run correctly the age ‘gap’ will
be diminished and the focus of the students will be on having
fun and sharing their interests regardless of the age of
the other members.
Society period is held every 2 weeks between 12:25 –
13:05 on Wednesdays during school. Every boy has to attend
a society that he has committed himself to for that term.
The Role of the Society Chairman
Being a Society Chairman should be a great honour, as this
means you have been selected by a wide variety of people
as the person best suited to run your particular society.
This means that they think you are the one who is going
to make the society run in the way that they are going to
enjoy it, and this is the role of a society chairman.
Although this sounds like a lot of fun it entails a great
deal of work, which is not always seen by the people forming
the society
Main duties of a Society Chairman:
To organize a society period every 2nd week
To take a new role call list at the beginning of each new
term and take the role call at the beginning of each society
period and mark down all absentees.
To ensure that your society is running correctly and not
on the path to destruction.
