Wynberg Boys’ High has always been culturally strong, and one particular section of its cultural pillar is its choir.
The choir comprises a group of young men who enjoy expressing themselves through voice. Our choir offers a wide spread of different voices as well as a large repertoire of songs. These range from jazz to classical, with even a bit of traditional music thrown in.
As well as working on the choir’s repertoire, time is set aside at each practice for professional vocal training so that each boy may learn special techniques as well as breath control, and thereby improve the quality of his voice. Being a large group, we all have certain characteristics that add to the choir. We enjoy performing and even competing. We practise on Mondays for one and a half hours, and any boy is encouraged and welcome to attend.
Goals for 2007:
- To have at least 40 boys in the choir.
- To expand our repertoire (hosting a wider variety of songs).
- To have the choir achieve Honors in the eisteddfod.
- To have more boys achieving awards.
- For the boys in the choir to try other events, such as the school production, for their benefit.
- To have better participation in most cultural events.
- To perform a lot more, which in turn will increase popularity both at school and within the wider community.
- To do more performances in conjunction with the girls’ school. (practices included).
- To maintain the high profile of the Cultural Pillar at Wynberg Boys’ High.
