2006 proved to be a very successful year for the Concert Band; it also saw the loss of some of its most valuable members. Under the leadership of Peter Catzavelos, the band has grown from strength to strength and maintained its powerful stance in the Cultural community of Cape Town.
The band won many awards and accolades during 2006. The Concert and Steel Bands came third in

the Clash of the Concertos competition at the Waterfront. This was financially and professionally rewarding.
The Band also received Honours in the Cape Town Eisteddfod which took place at Wynberg Girls’ High School. Pieces which the band played included Pirates of the Caribbean, St Louis Blues and Roll Tide.
Not only did the Concert Band receive numerous awards, but it also had the opportunity to perform at the City Hall in June as apart of the Wynberg Campus of Schools Concert.
2007 will be a challenging year; we are aiming to achieve full attendance at all band practices and to increase the size of the band. A boost in numbers in the Concert Band means that the band will be bigger and undoubtedly better.
The Concert Band is currently learning a new repertoire - out with the old and in with the new! Future concerts will promise fresh and enjoyable pieces which will entertain people of all ages. 2007 promises to be a very successful year for the Cultural Pillar of the school, and for the Concert Band in particular.
