Introduction

The technology department at Wynberg is in the process of changing its focus towards the theoretical side of practical work. The new policy requiring schools to specialize somewhat saw the departure of metalwork, leaving at the end of 2006, and woodwork, falling away with this year’s matrics.  They have been replaced by Engineering Graphics and Design, or EGD. EGD is a subject that focuses on technical drawings such as those used by architects and engineers. A great emphasis is placed on accuracy and grade tens, for instance, spend three quarters of a year learning to draw with a ruler before moving onto a CAD (Computer Aided Drawing) program.
Although a lot of hard work, technology is an extremely rewarding and enjoyable subject and anyone prepared to work can benefit hugely from it.
