PHYSICAL EDUCATION
The aim of the Physical Education programme
is to help the boys at Wynberg develop basic skills
such as hand-eye coordination and fitness. With the
introduction of new technology such as computers and
television, there has been an obvious shift in the
lifestyle of today's youth from spending more time
outdoors to enjoying staying indoors. An experiment
was conducted at the beginning of the year to prove
this theory and we found some interesting results
by means of a chin-up test conducted by every grade
8. The following results were noted:
Grade 8 "Chin up" tests
1984: 0,5 % of boys could not lift their own bodyweight
2002: 38,6 % of boys could not lift their own bodyweight
using the same testing criteria. This could be owing
to their lifestyle changes such as :
1. Over-exposure to TV
2. The development of computers
3. Change in diet
4. General lack of Exercise
During the course of the year, the juniors of the
school (grade 8's and 9's) will be performing various
activities in order to test how their sporting and
teamwork skills have developed during the course of
the year.
