Life Orientation focuses on the holistic development of learners. There is ample evidence that significant social and health problems exist in South Africa today. Many of these problems may be associated with the lifestyles adopted by individuals, particularly with respect to drug abuse, poor self esteem, lack of tolerance, lack of productivity, H.I.V. and A.I.D.S., unhealthy eating habits and other high risk behaviours.
The aim of Life Orientation is to grow our boys’ intellectual, personal, social, spiritual and emotional capacity to be able to deal with the enormous amount of pressure placed on adolescents today.
The outcomes for Life Orientation are as follows:
• personal growth and development
• relationships
• spiritual development and beliefs
• rights and responsibilities
• life and decision making skills
• career and other opportunities
• health promoting
• human movement and Physical activity – COVERED IN PHYSICAL EDUCATION
I firmly believe that Life Orientation is instrumental in promoting a meaningful lifestyle for each boy. I see a bright future for this new learning area here at Wynberg and look forward to seeing the dividends when our young men take to the world.
